<As featured in the March/April 2005 edition of
StrokeCONNECTION magazine, the Muff Vest is a unique sling developed by the wife of
a Stroke Survivor. The vest takes the pressure off of the neck and back
and distributes the weight of the unusable (flaccid) arm and distributes it over
the upper body. The vest protects and supports the weight of the arm and
can be used for the left arm or right arm.
Designed by the wife of a Stroke Survivor, the Muff Vest
eliminated the need for an uncomfortable Hemi-Sling. The designer's
husband had a stroke in 1999, eighteen months after suffering a heart attack.
The stoke paralyzed his left side and his arm and shoulder ached constantly.
A sling seemed like the perfect answer, but the weight of his arm caused the
sling to cut into the back of his neck and he started having back pain as well.
His creative wife had an idea that would transfer the weight of his arm to his
whole upper body and she designed the Muff Vest.
The Muff Vest is great for anyone who has had a Stroke,
injuries or other arm disabilities. The "open at both ends" muff allows
for the good arm to guide the other arm through the vest. It therefore is
perfect for either the left or the right arm.
The horizontal muff pocket is open on both ends allowing
the wearer to reach through the pocket and place his/her impaired arm within the
support. Two large, patch pockets located under the arm muff provide
easily accessible "pockets" to carry needed and useful items.
The Muff Vest is made of a cotton/polyester blend fabric
that is machine washable. The vest is sewn with durable reinforced
stitching for long wear. The vest closes in the back with two reinforced 2
inch square "hook and loop closures" which have been sewn on with durability in
mind.
The vest can be worn by either women or men.
Although we focus on the senior population at ElderStore®,
we do have products that are needed and desired by children
and younger adults as well. This product is available in children's sizes
for a reduced price.
The Muff Vest is made in the US by the original
designer. They are not mass produced and is available in two colors; Khaki
and Navy Blue.
